Best of Istria Multisport

Istria holidays – from Porec to Plitvice Lakes

This multisport adventure holiday explores the enchanting region of Istria and world-famous Plitvice Lakes National Park. Nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the continental part of Croatia lies Istria – a rustic area filled with lush forests, verdant valleys, clear rivers, and rich history. You will explore beautiful trails with amazing scenery while also experiencing local cuisine and culture.

The journey begins in Porec, a small coastal town filled with magnificent historical sites. After two days of sea kayaking next to the stunning coastline, rocky coves and islands around Porec and Rovinj, you will head inland to explore the charming Istrian countryside by bike

For the next three days, you will have the chance to enjoy incredible views of medieval hilltop towns, olive groves, vineyards and forests spread across Istria’s rolling green hills.

The 8-day multi adventure holiday concludes with a visit to Croatia’s premier national park, Plitvice Lakes, which dazzles visitors with its exquisite series of 16 emerald green and opal blue travertine lakes.

This trip is also possible as a shortened 5-day tour.

DAY 2
Sea Kayaking Porec Islands

Porec is one of Istria’s most renowned tourist destinations. The ancient town manages to balance the authentic charm of a small coastal town filled with magnificent historical sites, with the perks and exciting features modern and active travelers expect. Spread across 37 km of stunning coastline, the Porec Riviera is ideal for sea kayaking. Today’s trip will show you Porec in another light and give you the chance to explore the area from a different perspective.

DAY 3
Sea Kayaking Rovinj Islands

The picturesque town of Rovinj is a masterpiece of urban art and architecture, but its surroundings, the Rovinj Archipelago Islands, are masterpieces of nature. The best way to explore and enjoy them is in a kayak. Our kayaks will take you to the harbor, around Old Town Rovinj, to the Golden Cape and to Sveti Katarina Island and its hidden beaches – all in a half-day round trip. One of our secret spots includes optional cliff jumping into the crystal clear sea for more adventurous travelers. After kayaking, there will be time to enjoy a walk through the meandering, narrow streets of Rovinj and enjoy a coffee, an ice cream or a glass of wine.

Accommodation: Porec guesthouse; Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.

DAY 4
Oprtalj - Groznjan - Motovun Cycling Tour

The Istrian Peninsula is well known for its coast, but the real treasures are inland. Rural Istria is rich with medieval hilltop villages, vineyards, fields and forests, which are very pleasant for touring on a bike. This cycling tour includes Oprtalj and Groznjan, charming hillside towns where we will have time for a short walk and exploring. We will get the chance to cycle the Parenzana, an old railroad bed now known as a mecca for cyclists. As we slowly travel down to the Mirna River Valley, we will enjoy magnificent views of the countryside. Since Motovun is just a short drive away, we will have the opportunity to explore the picturesque hillside town, walk along its old defense walls, have dinner with truffles – a local specialty – and enjoy a gorgeous sunset over the Mirna River valley.

Accommodation: Motovun guesthouse; Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.

DAY 5
Optional Trip Day – Istrian Wine Safari / Hiking Ucka Mountain / Istrian Villages Sightseeing / Relaxing in Motovun

Today there is an option to take a rest day or go on a day trip that your guide will help you organize. Possible options include:

Its highest peak, Vojak, offers a stunning panoramic view of Croatia’s northern coast and islands, the mountains of Gorski Kotar, the Italian Alps and Dolomites and the whole of the Istrian Peninsula. Ucka Nature Park is where the Mediterranean and continental climates meet, resulting in a unique spectrum of flora and fauna. This is the only place on Earth where you can see the endemic Ucka bellflower.

Istrian Villages Sightseeing: Take a guided tour to the towns of Motovun and Groznjan in the heart of Istria and follow the Mirna River all the way to the Adriatic sea.

Because of the many movies that have been filmed here and movie stars who have walked its streets, some people have dubbed Draguc Istrian Hollywood. We start our trip walking along the wooden paths and bridges in and around Plitvice Lakes, Croatia’s oldest and most popular national park. Its exquisite series of 16 emerald green and opal blue travertine lakes, more than 90 waterfalls and numerous caves make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lakes are surrounded by beech and pine forests and are home to extensive wildlife. After our walk we will enjoy a picnic lunch in this pristine, natural area.
