Montenegro Hiking Tour
Explore Durmitor National Park and Komovi Nature Park on our 5-day Montenegro Hiking Tour
Starting in Dubrovnik, this 5-day hiking trip will take you to the heart of Durmitor National Park, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980 due to its exceptional natural beauty and geological significance. As you travel with us through Montenegro, you’ll be able to see beautiful scenery all around: lakes, rivers, and scenic mountain roads. Our hikes will take you to the most beautiful peaks of the Durmitor mountain region as well as the wild Komovi mountain range. Walk on grassy meadows surrounded by rocky summits while discovering the area’s rich history.
This adventure offers the perfect mix of hiking, nature, and culture. All of the hikes on this trip can be adjusted to fit the group’s fitness level and expertise. After each day’s hike, we will unwind at beautiful accommodations and have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Montenegrin cuisine.
We will finish the tour with a visit to the pearl of the Montenegrin coast – the city of Kotor. You can end the trip here, or ride with your guide back to Dubrovnik, Croatia. (For private groups, we also offer alternative drop-off points such as Tivat, Montenegro, or even Split, Croatia).
If you’d like to extend your stay in the region, consider adding one of our Croatia or Slovenia tours to your trip.

Morning pickup in Dubrovnik / Hiking in Durmitor NP
Your guide will pick you up in the morning in Dubrovnik, Croatia. We will confirm the exact pickup time a few days ahead. From Dubrovnik, we have about a 3.5-hour drive to the plateau where we start the hike.
Our goal today is the summit of Prutaš, standing at 2,393 meters (7,851 feet) above sea level. The hike spans 8 kilometers (5 miles) with an elevation gain of 585 meters (1,912 feet) and should take approximately 4 to 5 hours in total. The journey begins along a scenic panoramic road offering breathtaking views of the Piva Canyon. To the horizon, you’ll spot Bosnia’s highest peaks, while on the other side, the lush green slopes of Durmitor rise, punctuated by towering limestone formations. As we ascend toward Prutaš, the trail will lead us to a plateau with stunning views of Durmitor’s glacial lakes and fascinating rock formations at every turn. Along the way, your guide will share captivating local legends, while you relax on the soft, grassy meadows and soak in the scenery.
After the hike, we’ll head to the area around Žabljak, your home for the next two nights. Nestled in the heart of the Durmitor mountain region, Žabljak sits at an impressive altitude of 1,456 meters, making it the highest town in the Balkans. In the evening, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner where you’ll have the chance to get to know your guide and fellow travelers while enjoying a delicious Montenegrin meal.

Hiking Bobotov Kuk
After a restful night and traditional Montenegrin breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your accommodation and take you to the starting point for today’s adventure. The drive to the trailhead takes around 45 minutes, leading us back into the heart of Durmitor National Park for a longer, more challenging hike. Today’s goal is the summit of Bobotov Kuk. The hike is approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) with an elevation gain of 738 meters (2,421 feet), and the entire journey will take about 6 to 7 hours.
The trail offers a fascinating variety of landscapes, starting with a steeper ascent before opening up to grassy meadows in what was once a glacial valley, surrounded by towering peaks. As we climb, the changing terrain keeps the hike both exciting and rewarding. Bobotov Kuk, once considered the highest peak in Montenegro, remains one of the most stunning hikes in the region, offering unparalleled views from the summit and on every step of the hike. After the hike, your guide will drive you to your accommodation, giving you time to relax for the rest of the day.

Drive to to Stavna village / Hiking Vasojevica Kom
Today, after breakfast, we will leave the Žabljak area and make our way to the village of Stavna, a mountain settlement nestled beneath the Komovi mountain range. The drive will take approximately 3 hours. Upon arrival, we’ll embark on a hike to Vasojevićki Kom, starting from a point that boasts some of the most breathtaking views in Montenegro.
Beyond its natural beauty, the Komovi region is rich in history, and your guide will share fascinating stories as you explore the area. The trail begins through woods, transitioning to rocky terrain. With each step, the views open up, revealing the ever-changing faces of the mountain. The hike will take around 5 hours in total, covering 8 kilometers (5 miles) with an elevation gain of 732 meters (2,401 feet).
After the hike, your guide will take you to your accommodation in Kolasin, where you’ll stay for the next two nights. In the evening, you’ll have free time to explore the town and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant at your leisure.

Hiking in Komovi mountains
After breakfast, we will drive back to the Stavna area and do a longer hike in the Komovi mountain range. Depending on the weather and how the group is feeling, your guide will plan the day in the mountains. Following the hike, we’ll return to your accommodation, where you can unwind and have some rest. Later, we’ll have time to explore the charming town of Kolašin. Known for its rich history, vibrant restaurants, cozy bars, and nearby nature parks, Kolašin has a unique appeal. Stroll through the town center and discover for yourself why it’s often called the “untouched Switzerland” of Montenegro.
