Istrian Countryside Cycling

Croatia cycling tour through the Istrian countryside

Rural Istria is rich with medieval hilltop villages, vineyards, olive groves, meadows, and forests – the area is very pleasant for touring on a bike. Our Croatia cycling tour route includes Oprtalj and Groznjan, charming hillside towns where we will have time for a short walk and exploring. We will also cycle the Parenzana, an old railroad bed now known as a mecca for cyclists. As we travel down to the Mirna River Valley, we will enjoy magnificent views of the countryside from the trail.

This is a 50km round trip and ends at the starting point. The route follows a mix of paved roads with little traffic and packed dirt and gravel trails. The trip’s level of difficulty is considered moderate to challenging on a regular bike. If you are not used to cycling on hilly terrain, we recommend using an e-bike (35 euro surcharge).

09:00 Meet at the starting point, safety briefing, start cycling.
12:30 Arrival in Groznjan, break for lunch and refreshing drinks. Begin Parenzana trail after lunch.
15:30 End of cycling trip and optional visit to Motovun Old Town.

All prices are per person, with a minimum of 4 guests per group. We can do the tour for groups of less than 4, but the price will be higher for each person. Private tours are also available – contact us for more details.

  • Guide
  • Use of bicycles (we use Giant mountain bikes) and other equipment
  • Insurance
  • Optional visit to Motovun

Not included:

  • Food and drinks during the trip
  • Gratuities for your guide(s)
  • Transfers to and from the starting point

CANCELLATIONS:

In the case of extreme weather conditions, Terra Magica Adventures will reschedule the activity for a day or two prior to or after the date booked, if possible. If the change is not possible, payments will be refunded in full.

All clients’ cancellations must be in writing by email.
Cancellation charges per person (percentage of total price) are as follows:

  • 8 or more days prior to arrival – 0%
  • 2-7 days prior to arrival – 50%
  • 1 day prior to arrival or no show – 100%

Arrival and departure point: Livade or Motovun – details provided upon booking.

Transfers: Transfers from various locations in Istria to the starting point are available on request (subject to availability – charges may apply).

Maximum number of participants: 8 guests per group. Larger groups on request.

Minimum age: 10 years if accompanied by parent(s).

Things to bring with you: Walking or cycling shoes, water, sunscreen, some cash for food and drinks, snacks, clothing suitable for cycling and a spare t-shirt to change into after the trip.

Terra Magica Adventures guides will do their utmost to ensure the best possible experience for their clients without compromising safety at any time. This may mean changing the original itinerary to avoid discomfort or risk, which could be caused by extreme temperatures, stormy weather, heavy traffic or other factors beyond our control.
