Hike to the Top of Istria

Istria Adventure: Hiking in Cicarija

Enjoy a day of hiking in Istria through wild Cicarija – a mountainous plateau in the northernmost part of Istria just next to the Slovenian border. On this half-day hiking trip, we’ll visit some of Istria’s most rugged natural areas that remain largely unknown to tourists. You can step back in time as we pass through traditional villages and pastures filled with grazing goats and sheep. Along the trail, we’ll take in views of Cicarija’s grasslands and forests and the rolling hills throughout northern Istria. From the summit, we’ll enjoy a stunning view of the whole Istrian peninsula. On a clear day, you can see the Dolomites in Italy, the Alps in Slovenia and Austria and the cities of Trieste, Koper and Venice. We’ll take a break at the top to enjoy the view – you are welcome to bring snacks for a picnic lunch.

This tour is possible as hiking only or a combination of hiking and cycling using e-bikes (additional fee). Please let us know what you would prefer when booking.

All prices are per person, with a minimum of 4 people per group. We can do the tour for groups of less than 4, but the price for each person will be higher. Private tours are also available – contact us for more details.

  • Skilled guide
  • Transfer from meeting point to the start of the hike
  • All local taxes
  • Insurance

Not included:

  • Tips for your guide(s)
  • Food and drinks during the trip

CANCELLATIONS:

In the case of extreme weather conditions, Terra Magica Adventures will reschedule the activity for a day or two prior to or after the date booked, if possible. If the change is not possible, payments will be refunded in full.

All clients’ cancellations must be in writing by email.
Cancellation charges per person (percentage of total price) are as follows:

  • 8 or more days prior to arrival – 0%
  • 2-7 days prior to arrival – 50%
  • 1 day prior to arrival or no show – 100%

Arrival and departure point: Terra Magica Adventures meeting point in Motovun (details provided during booking).

Things to bring with you:  Hiking boots, water, backpack, bug repellent, sunscreen, snacks, some cash for food, drinks or other expenses, spare t-shirt.

Transfers: Transfers to the starting point from various locations in Istria are available on request (subject to availability – charges may apply).

Minimum age: 8 years if accompanied by parent(s).

Terra Magica Adventures guides will do their utmost to ensure the best possible experience for their clients without compromising safety at any time. This may mean changing the original itinerary to avoid discomfort or risk, which could be caused by extreme temperatures, stormy weather, heavy traffic or other factors beyond our control.
